Design is about the process. It poses an opportunity to iterate and improve ideas and solutions from a user-centered perspective. Each project has its own outline and characteristics that require a customized process. But no matter what design I'm working on, I move through the process based on three main phases: Inspiration, Ideation and Implementation.

Inspiration

Inspiration is about understanding the people I'm designing for, including users and clients. It’s a phase based on learning and to build empathy. To better understand people, you need to listen and observe. This can be done through interviews, focus groups, surveys, usability testing, observations etc.

Ideation

Ideation is about making sense of all the information gathered, to generate ideas and to identify opportunities. The information needs to be analyzed and the most important element identified. This can be done by creating personas, to set up user journey mapping and to get visual through site maps, user flows, mockups and wireframes. It’s during the phase of ideation that the design takes form and things are being built that can be tested and refined.

Implementation

Implementation is about bring you solution to life and how to get it out on the market. This is the phase when the concept gets complet, ready for user testing, internalt testing or a beta launch limited for a smaller target group. This involves to observe the target group when using the product and to find issues and cleaning them up before its launched. After iteration, the product is ready to be launched.
